A short history of Isleworth Bowling Club.
Redlees Park was opened on July 23rd 1932.A bowling green had been laid down in 1931, this was allowed to mature and Redlees Bowling Club was founded as a gentleman’s club in 1934, the name was changed to Isleworth Bowling Club in 1944.
Many of the original members were associated with Watneys and with Firestone. The club was very active in the Hounslow and District League and won it several times.
During the 1980s, Whitton Community Centre had a bowling section for both ladies and gentlemen and they played at Isleworth on Sundays. In 1985 they joined Isleworth Bowling Club with the ladies forming a new section. Membership flourished but in 1992, Hounslow Council withdrew their funding for all the bowling greens in the Borough, this led to the formation of the Hounslow Bowling Green Federation in 1993, which lasted until 2001 when it was disbanded.
The Club no longer has separate sections for Ladies and Gentlemen although single sex teams are still required for some competitions.
The Clubhouse was part of the original stables block, and members had the use of one stable, a second stable was made available and became the ladies changing room, a third was added and made into a kitchen, eventually a fourth was converted to the men’s changing room. Following remodelling in 1998, the stables became an arts centre and a new clubhouse was built.
Isleworth Bowling Club is affiliated to Bowls England, Middlesex County Bowling Association, Hounslow and District Bowling Association, Richmond, Barnes and District Bowling Association, the Thames Valley Bowling Association and the Fordbridge League.
